We Chose to Go to the Moon

PG | 105 min | DOCUMENTARY

We Chose to Go to the Moon celebrates the great accomplishment and wonder of putting a person on the moon, the anxiety and excitement of the lunar landing, and the tension-filled mission control. During one of the most turbulent times in American History, on July 20, 1969, across the United States and around the world, we came together, celebrated and looked up at the sky in awe at this remarkable accomplishment. The program includes footage from NASA, rare archival interviews with astronauts and their families, and iconic photographs. A 30-piece orchestra, performing resonant and evocative music from the sixties, will be conducted and directed by Kimberly Grigsby (currently on Broadway with the record-breaking production of To Kill a Mockingbird), and will feature Broadway veterans including Adam Kantor (Tony-nominated for The Band’s Visit), Alan H. Green (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Shonica Gooden (Hamilton) and Crystal Kellogg (School of Rock). Peter Flynn (Ford Theater’s Ragtime and the upcoming Smart Blonde) is the director. Woven throughout the program are historic flags flown to the moon on each of the Apollo missions, fabric from the Wright brothers’ 1903 flyer and a flag that Amelia Earhart took with her on her historic flight across the Atlantic
